Description:
This quilt is centered on a cream-based reproduction fabric which features a sailor and ships. It is a triple Irish Chain pattern with 1 inch squares done in cream, red, and navy blue. The quilt has a triple outer border and is quilted heavily. The center quilting is straight line through the chain squares and a large anchor in the theme fabric. The red inner border is quilted with a meandering star, the middle cream border is quilted with waves, and the blue outer border is quilted with a cable. The backing is pieced with a coordinating reproduction fabric (cream based with red and blue dots), red fabric (from the inner border), and blue fabric (from the outer border). The quilting thread on the back is cream which accents the quilting. The binding is hand finished.
The story:
This quilt was made during one of my summer trips to Jennifer's house. She has an extensive fabric stash (we all do) but could not think of what to do with the two reproduction fabrics. I immediately thought it would look great in an Irish Chain, so off I went to the store. I had the quilt top pieced within a few days. The quilting design took me a long time to work out, but I am pleased with the results.
