The story:
This quilt started out as a large lap quilt but it just kept growing. I worked on the butterflies a little at a time and didn't realize how many I had until it came time to lay it out. Many of the fabrics are from my Grandmother's stash (she is my mom's mother who passed away several years ago). There are even fabrics in the quilt that were scraps from a dress she made me when I was a child. The quilt also has fabric scraps from my mother—so it truely is a "Generations" quilt.
This quilt is now owned by my Aunt (my mother's sister) who loves butterflies. She has a garden full of plants that butterflies lay eggs on so she can enjoy watching the caterpillars emerge into beautiful butterflies. My children got to release at least a dozen butterflies at her home this past summer. ( The detail picture below is Grandma Sharon and I with her quilt at the Quilt Show.)
